Edinburgh’s Best Restaurants for Outdoor Dining
It feels like the first Scottish summer in years that we actually have the weather to enjoy it! These quasi Mediterranean temperatures have us heading to the beach and opting for al fresco dining. Thankfully, there’s a range of brilliant cafes and restaurants in Edinburgh that have outdoor terraces so you can soak up the rays. If that sounds tempting to you, here are Edinburgh’s best restaurants for outdoor dining!

Tucked away down one of the Royal Mile’s atmospheric closes lies Monteiths – a boutique cocktail bar & restaurant. We’re sure you’ll be drawn in by their intriguing archway of twigs and twinkly lights, which add to the cosy and intimate setting of the restaurant. A favourite of locals and visitors alike, Monteiths is a must for relaxed dining and innovative cocktails. The best bit is they have a tiny courtyard which allows al fresco dining.

Divino is part of the Vittoria Group, a third-generation Italian family restaurant and popular among locals. The Italian restaurant believes in using seasonal, fresh, and local produce to create genuine Italian cuisine! Situated next to picturesque Union Canal, Akva is a great place to grab a bite as well as enjoy a drink in its fabulous beer garden. Despite being in the city centre, there is something very calming about watching the activity on the canal as you enjoy your drink or meal. Built in 1836, the cottage originally was home to the gardener of the area and has now been transformed into Edinburgh’s home for seasonal cooking and social dining. The restaurant is laid out with long communal tables where you can enjoy a weekend brunch or an a’la carte lunch menu. The fun part is their menu is ever-changing and they are passionate about using fresh, local produce so you’re always in for a treat. Additionally, it’s also a lovely spot for a sunny day as they also have a few picnic benches out the front so you can soak up the rays.
