5 Alternative Edinburgh Christmas Markets

It’s almost December and Edinburgh is officially in Christmas mode. If you’re looking to get into the holiday spirit but want to get away from the hordes and off the beaten track, there are a range of festivities taking place across the city throughout December that are sure to bring you some good cheer. We’ve put together a guide to a few of Edinburgh’s Alternative Christmas Markets to get you started.

1. The Christmas Fair at Jupiter Artland

This magical market is in its third year and sees the Jupiter Steadings turned into an inspirational space filled with artisan stalls, home-made treats, floral workshops and more. 2. Summerhall Christmas Market

When: Sunday 9 December | 11am-5pm
Where: Summerhall

Summerhall opens its doors each year to celebrate some of Edinburgh’s best small businesses and artisans at one of the city’s most anticipated independent markets. For one day only this multi-arts complex and events venue hosts a Christmas extravaganza, packed-full of alternative and interesting gifts. Local vendors will be serving up delicious food and drink (including vegetarian and vegan options) in the charming courtyard and warming winter meals in the on-site pub and restaurant.

At only £2 to enter and free for under 16s, this market is a great day out for the whole family. You’ll want to get there early as there will be plenty to do, including festive activities, wreath-making workshops, and live choral performances by the Summerhall Singers. For a second year running, the market is partnering with The Teapot Trust, Scotland’s children’s art therapy charity, to run porcelain painting workshops – a great activity for children and adults alike! All proceeds this year will go to supporting the charity.

Tickets are sold on the door. Visit their website for more info: www.summerhall.co.uk
