What The Dickins: A Tale Of Edinburgh City

Edinburgh’s Best Chocolate

Is there anything more indulgent than treating yourself to a decadent bar of your favourite chocolate? Or perhaps you prefer your chocolate in the form of a scoop of rich ice cream or maybe as a warm chocolate sauce drizzled over a hot waffle… Just thinking about that first bite has got our mouths watering! One thing we definitely can’t get enough of is chocolate. Edinburgh is home to some fantastic chocolate producers, all with their own unique specialties, so we decided to make a list of our Edinburgh’s best chocolate to share with you.

Edinburgh’s Best Chocolate

1. Coco Chocolatier

A much loved small batch chocolatier in Edinburgh, Coco, bring single origin chocolate from Colombia to the shores of Scotland. They have a wide range of chocolatey treats to choose from, collaborating with artists to present their chocolate in beautiful collections. We are most excited by their recent news of a move to South Queensferry, opening a large visitor centre later this year where they will offer guided tours, tastings and of course the opportunity to buy lots of chocolate.

2. Coro – The Chocolate Cafe

At Coro, you can have your cake and eat chocolate, too. Their menu is filled to the brim with crepes, waffles, pancakes and chocolate fondue, all with what seems like an endless choice of toppings and combinations. From warm pancakes to fresh fruit, they pour chocolate on everything. And if that’s just not enough, you can wash it all down with a uniquely flavoured hot chocolate, like black pepper dark or mint white. Coro is the ultimate destination for dessert lovers!

3. Edward & Irwyn

For those looking for a refined chocolate experience, look no further than Edward & Irwyn. The French-trained chocolatiers behind the brand are always looking for new ways to push the boundaries of chocolate making and spend most of their time experimenting in the kitchen. They have been known to combine everything from flowers to herbs resulting in some deliciously weird and wonderful flavours. They may just change your perspective on chocolate forever.

Quirky Chocolate have now grown into a small independent business creating delicious chocolate with quirky, witty and beautiful designs. Working with local artists, who receive royalties for every chocolate sold featuring their work, Sandra has married chocolate and design to create something fun and quirky indeed.

Their chocolate supplier Original Beans works tirelessly to ensure that the cocoa farmers are given more than a living income (1.78 x the Fairtrade Premium) and resources to enable them to focus on producing healthy, high quality cocoa and that they are able to not only look after their own families, but also protect the environment and communities around them.

6. Mary’s Milk Bar

  • Where: Grassmarket
  • Website: www.marysmilkbar.com
  • Specialty: Fresh ice cream made daily and chocolates too.

Perhaps the most “Insta famous” on our list; Mary’s Milk Bar has been serving up incredible homemade ice cream and chocolate in the Grassmarket since 2013. Mary herself trained in Italy and is serious about her chocolate. The Milk Bar’s motto is freshness and they pride themselves on their daily changing menu, having lost count over the hundreds of flavours they’ve made over the years. Try one of their famous shakes or a gelato-of-the-day with thick homemade chocolate sauce poured on top or one of their hot chocolate floats, which are the kind of drinks that dreams are made of!

We hope that you’ve enjoyed discovering Edinburgh’s Best Chocolate. Luckily, many have online shops, so you can satisfy all your chocolate dreams, wherever you are.
