This home is a rare and precious thing and the most perfect base if you're performing or working in the Edinburgh Festival. You don't find many true homes in Edinburgh's Old Town and certainly not as treasured as this. Located on the third floor in the Grassmarket the first thing which strikes and surprises you is how green the views are because you're so central. Yet, you see trees in the Grassmarket itself and from the back of the apartment up towards Edinburgh Castle.

Downstairs there's a brilliant range of places to eat and drink, great healthy choices at Pumpkin Brown and Hula Juice Bar and the best ice cream this side of Bologna at Mary's Milk Bar. In the Festival, all the major venues are a hop, skip and jump away.

Inside this home, you'll see lovely things everywhere too. There's great art and antique furniture which is in keeping with this home and enhances its historic nature. The sitting room and dining room face the Grassmarket. Both have secondary glazing, so are lovely and quiet. The sitting room has lots of comfy seating. Next door the dining room is a real bonus. There's a lovely marble topped table which will either serve as a brilliant work space, a space to gather, or entertain. This room also has a traditional Scottish bed recess. The owners don't want this to be used permanently, but it's perfect for occasional guests.

At the back of the apartment, you'll find the quiet double bedroom with views to Edinburgh Castle and lots of storage for clothes. Next door is the brilliantly equipped kitchen which has a breakfasting table. In the middle is the shower room and the utility cupboard.

The very lucky person who stays here for over the Edinburgh Festival is going to be the envy of their friends and colleagues and will immediately want to book it again for the following year. It's a cracker!

This home can only be booked for a month over the Edinburgh Festival.

Old Town

Your New Neighbourhood

The Old Town is so jam packed with things to do, it is hard to describe in a paragraph. For us The Old Town runs from Mound Place and Market Street to Bristo Square and from Lothian Road to The Palace of Holyroodhouse.

Edinburgh Castle dominates the skyline of Edinburgh, sitting magnificently as it does looking out over the city. It can be seen from miles around. Listen out for the One O’clock gun every day. The massively popular Edinburgh Military Tattoo plays to thousands here each festival. The Camera Obscura will delight both adults and children alike, as will The National Museum of Scotland. Following a major refurbishment, the museum is world class. Greyfriar’s Bobby keeps watch across the road and a wander around the churchyard of Greyfriars Kirk is fascinating and potentially spooky. If you are a sucker for a ghost story, Mary King’s Close is guaranteed to make you scream and there are many ghost tours starting on the High Street. St Giles Cathedral rises magnificently above the Royal Mile and all the closes that run off it are well worth a day exploring. The Palace of Holyroodhouse, The Queen’s Official Residence in Edinburgh, is stunning and sits opposite The Scottish Parliament.
