Top 5 Edinburgh Fringe Musical Shows At Assembly 2017

Edinburgh Festival is so packed with performances that it can be a bit overwhelming to choose what you want to go and see. We always say the best way to find good shows is to listen to recommendations – so we’ve asked the guys at one of the biggest Fringe venues in town, Assembly, to let us in on what their best musical acts this year are…

5 Musical Show recommendations by Assembly

This year we are celebrating 70 years of the Edinburgh Festival fringe with our biggest programme yet – over 200 shows from 12 countries, spread across 26 temporary performance spaces. Including a return to our former home – the magnificent Assembly Rooms on George Street.

Every show is a hot ticket, but if you are looking for our 5 musical must-sees then don’t miss….

1.The Musical in My Mind

Irish rapper Rob Broderick aka Abandoman’s new show The Musical in My Mind in George Square Gardens. This show fuses hip hop and comedy with beautiful animation and tongue twisting lyrical magic, in a piece that’s two parts Drake and one part Disney.

2.Concerto a Tempo D’Umore

For those whose classical music repertoire is made up of movie soundtracks, Catalonian classical aficionados bring you Concerto a Tempo D’Umore, an unmissable fun hour of classical ‘hits’, skits, mime and even a little pop culture trivia.

3.The Choir of Man

Choir_of_Man-18316

For 60 minutes of unadulterated entertainment that combines high energy dance, live percussion and foot stomping choreography, I can’t recommend enough The Choir of Man. Fresh from the creative minds behind perennial fringe favourites The Magnets and the acappella stage show Gobsmacked! nine incredibly talented ordinary guys perform everything from sing-along classics to classic rock, tap, tumbling and poetry in the greatest pub gig you’ve ever been to, multiplied by 10!

4.Chamber Pot Opera

Chamber Pot Opera

If it’s something a bit different you’re after, head to the ladies loos in Assembly Hall for our Chamber Pot Opera. This intimate production, performed by Australia’s next generation of opera singers mixes Puccini, Mozart and Bizet with the stories, traumas and fantasies experienced by three women who meet in a bathroom and start telling each other about their lives through song.

5.Massaoke’ Club La La

Massaokes_Club_La_La-18441

Finally THE after-party of the Festival is back at the Spiegeltent in George Square: Massaoke’ Club La La, part live gig, part club night, is full of thumping great tunes played to lyrics on a giant screen from the 80s, 90s 00s and beyond. Enjoy guest appearances from a host of Fringe performers, in a room full of sequined party goers singing and dancing their hearts out together until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays (weekdays 1am). This is a night that all the stars want to be part of and promises to be an experience like no other….
