What The Dickins: A Tale Of Edinburgh City

Hatti Pattisson – Artist & Textile Designer

hatti pattisson

Edinburgh is brimming with independent retailers who are proud to show off their artisan, handmade and often-bespoke products! This month, we’re very excited to share one artist in particular with you, Hatti PattissonHatti is an extremely talented Scottish artist who creates expressive, emotive land and seascapes. Hatti’s work explores three key themes – floral, landscape and seascape, each an expression of her relationship to her surroundings, thoughts, memories and emotions. She creates original works of art, hand-finished art prints and commissioned paintings. Moreover, a few of her gorgeous painting have been used as the inspiration for a range of textiles and lampshades, as well as being incorporated into the design of boutique hotels and luxury homes. If you’re interested in having a look at her textiles and home furnishings, she has an online shop. Don’t forget to check out her Instagram to keep up to date with her exhibitions, in fact, she currently has a wonderful exhibition on display at The Out of the Blue Drill Hall!

The best way to tell you more about this fabulous business is to let Hatti herself take over.

1. Could you tell us a little bit about your business and how it started?

My business is my passion which is painting and a small textile company making unique lighting, cushions and fabric by the metre. It was clear I was going to pursue a creative career and most likely painting as I dedicated so much time to it even when I was little.

Hatti’s gorgeous paintings incorporated into the G&V’s hotel suites.

2. Where do you find your inspiration?

From the world around me. Many of my pieces evolve without a clear plan which plays between the real and the imaginary of a place. I’m interested in the sensations of being somewhere. Many of my paintings for me represent feelings and a sensation of a place.

3. What does a typical working day look like for you?

Luckily painting is the core of my day and week. There are a lot of visits to the framers and art shop, meetings with clients for commissions, corresponding with galleries and clients from my laptop and organising my own solo and mixed shows.

4. What are your most popular pieces at the moment?

Big abstracts and water inspired pieces.

6. What does the rest of 2018 have in store for you?

I have my solo show on at the moment up which will most likely be the only solo I will do of the year at my studio which has a big white space lit with lovely natural light under a glass ceiling. Come along! I have been working on the collection for months. Can’t wait to reveal it to you all. Info below:

Other than that I have had several commissions this year so am working on those and have some large scale art work lampshades commissioned. It’s always great to see what people do with my fabrics. We have a new fabric this year and will launch another soon.

7. We’re all about Edinburgh, so we’d love to know what your perfect Edinburgh day would entail?

Breakfast with a friend at either the Kitchen Table in Leith or the wonderful Leo’s Beanery in New town, sorting my artist hand with a manicure from Buff, a walk along the river, looking round galleries.  I would want to go for a swim and spa at the Balmoral. As its the perfect “Edinburgh day” I would want to go for cocktails with my friends and husband to be Mikey then go out for dinner at Kampai and if I am in the mood I love to dance which I don’t do enough so a silly and fun filled session at el Barrios.
