What The Dickins: A Tale Of Edinburgh City

9 Photos That’ll Make You Want To Spend Autumn in Edinburgh

I think we can all agree that Edinburgh is beautiful in every season, however, we do think Edinburgh wears autumn particularly well. For a brief time, the city is clothed in brilliant shades of crimson and gold, accentuating the city’s striking architecture and bringing it to life. It’s the season to dig out woolly jumpers and wellies and head out for evening strolls in the golden light. But, it’ll soon be time for autumn to leave and winter to descend, and we wanted to share several of our favourite photos of the season, which we’re sure will make you want to spend next autumn in Edinburgh!

Royal Mile

The Royal Mile is an iconic Edinburgh landmark and this wonderful photo by Tanya shows it is equally beautiful in dreich (Scottish word for dreary weather) autumn!

Botanic Gardens

You couldn’t choose a better place to enjoy an autumn day in Edinburgh than the Botanic Gardens and Laura has captured its beauty perfectly! Within the Botanic Gardens there are several cafes and even an art gallery, so why not wrap up warm and spend an afternoon there.

Edinburgh Autumn

Liberton Kirk is slightly outside of the city centre but is easily accessible by bus. The church is beautiful all year round but when its ivy starts to change colour it truly comes to life. We have been lucky to catch the process of the ivy changing colour and isn’t it magnificent!

St Bernards well

Georgina’s beautiful photo features St Bernard’s Well, a hidden gem which can be found along the Waters of Leith Walkway (between Stockbridge and Dean Village), and previously known for its healing mineral waters. There are several benches near the well for you to sit, soak up the beautiful surroundings, and listen to the soothing sound of the river.

We just love this snap taken by Iain of a rather inquisitive local! Princes Street Gardens is a wonderful place for a wander and boasts fantastic views of Old Town and Edinburgh Castle.

Daniel is known for his stunning photos of Edinburgh, often taken from new and unexpected angles, and this autumnal photo truly captures what it feels like to wander around Edinburgh during autumn!

Autumn in Edinburgh

Tiff has managed to capture Well Court, in Dean Village, beautifully and it looks even more striking against the burnt orange leaves of autumn.

Trees do not cling to their leaves. Autumn is about saying goodbye to the old and making way for the new.
