With its sumptuously curated interior, this glorious New Town Georgian apartment exudes luxury and style. Set behind its own private entrance, it will beguile you from the moment you step through the front door.
Its location is an absolute dream. You’ll feel like you’ve walked straight into a movie as you stroll along Northumberland Street, one of Edinburgh’s most sought-after New Town addresses, lined with Georgian townhouses.
History
Northumberland Street was planned by Robert Reid and William Sibbald in the early 19th century. It forms part of the Second New Town, which aimed to expand Edinburgh beyond the original New Town. Situated north of Queen Street Gardens, it extends towards the Water of Leith and also eastward and westward. The development of the Second New Town mainly took place between 1800 and 1830. Along with Old Town, New Town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995 and it’s easy to see why with the two hugely historic and contrasting sides of the city!
Building of Northumberland Street was completed by 1813. The building is an A Listed townhouse, constructed of polished ashlar sandstone. And picture this: until the Dean Bridge was completed in 1832, the stone to build these handsome Georgian houses had to be carted over the Water of Leith at Dean Village and heaved all the way up the steep Bell’s Brae.

What to do in New Town, Edinburgh:
Without a doubt you can’t beat simply wandering around New Town, with its leafy gardens and wide, cobbled avenues, lined with sweeping Georgian facades. And of course, no perfect day is complete without café hopping, antique/vintage shopping & visiting its galleries. Don’t miss the independent galleries on Dundas Street with their paintings, sculpture, ceramics & jewellery collections. We also love a visit to The National Portrait Gallery, housed in a gem of a building on Queen Street for its collection of Scottish paintings and photography.

Antique shopping in Dundas Street
The other wonderful thing about this home is that it is perfectly located for exploring the nearby neighbourhoods of Stockbridge and Dean Village. In Stockbridge don’t miss pretty Circus Lane & Saint Stephen Street with its eclectic indie shops. Pick up some artisan cheese from I.J. Mellis and a magnificent steak & stout pie from Harkness Pies (the beef is grass-fed, organic and dry-aged from local The Free Company) Brave the queue for a croissant from the famous Lannan Bakery and take a riverside walk along the Water of Leith to the picturesque, charming Dean Village.
