What The Dickins: A Tale Of Edinburgh City

The Tartan Blanket Company

Dickins Edinburgh

The Tartan Blanket Company, based in Edinburgh, sell some of the cosiest and most luxurious travel rugs, throws, blankets and scarves. When they launched a pop-up in Leith, we just had to go and have a chat!

Could you tell us a bit about the company?

In a nutshell, we’re an online Edinburgh-based brand selling a lovely range of luxury blankets and hand-picked home accessories!

How did the launch of The Tartan Blanket Company come about?

The Tartan Blanket Co. was started in November 2014 by co-directors and newlyweds, Emma and Fergus Macdonald.

They had recently moved back to Edinburgh from London and wanted to launch a business which incorporated their love of Scotland and beautifully designed products. They also wanted to offer customers good value for money as well as a great shopping experience from a vibrant and easy to use website, coupled with great customer service, fast delivery and beautiful packaging!

What is special about your products?

We felt that in a market swamped by disposable goods and bulk buying, it was important to be able to offer our customers a really special shopping experience and unique product, but ensure that they still felt that they were getting great value for money.

As an independent company, we rely on everyone in our small team to work incredibly hard and be very creative.

Are the blankets made locally?

We source our blankets from around the world. We work with 2 different Scottish Mills to offer a great range of Luxury Tartan Blankets in Lambswool and Cashmere, which are of the highest quality that you will find anywhere in the world. We also offer cosy British made new wool blankets in both traditional tartans and modern designs, which are priced at around £60. We also work with international mills to source new and recycled wool blankets which are priced very reasonably at £30. This ensures that all our customers are able to find something to fit their budget and still enjoy the full TBCo. experience!

Could you tell us a bit more about the range of products you stock?

Quite simply, we are the place to come for blankets! We source our blankets from all over, but our favourites are the luxury range – made right here in Scotland. We love our Heritage collection made in Wales.

We have also expanded our range in the last few months to now include scarves, capes, candles, jewellery and home decorations, which really complement our blanket range.

These blankets do look fantastic, perfect for the cold Scottish winter months. A fire and a hot drink with a Tartan Blanket please! Or even as this years Christmas present.
