The lovely people at Underbelly – one of the Fringe Festival’s biggest venues – have carefully selected five brilliant shows that you should know about and book tickets to before it’s too late!

So you’re coming to the Fringe this year? Awesome! We’ll be the ones next to the giant purple cow. Probably wearing purple. Generally embodying purple.
And if you haven’t yet decided, we would highly recommend pulling up those socks sharpish and chasing the tail of the Underbelly! We have some pretty incredible stuff coming up this year, and plenty of shows have been pegged by the journals as performances that will. sell. out. To get you into the arts-and-culture mood, we have picked out 5 shows (of the 150 shows-a-day, so that wasn’t easy!) that we think you might really be able to get your teeth into.
1. Fag/Stag
One story, two unreliable narrators. Heartfelt, funny and direct from multi award-winning seasons at Perth, Melbourne and Adelaide Fringe, Fag/Stag asks what it means to have your best mate when you’re stuck being your worst self. Written and performed by two of Australia’s sharpest young writers Jeffrey Jay Fowler and Chris Isaacs, Fag/Stag is a truthful and comic insight into the mind of the modern man.
Winner: Best Theatre Adelaide Fringe 2016. Winner Best Performance Melbourne Fringe 2015.
2. Circa: Humans
The new, thrilling and heart-stopping performance from the internationally acclaimed Circa (Closer, Beyond, Wunderkammer). Humans is an ecstatic love letter to our endangered species. Created by Yaron Lifschitz and fresh from a storming season at Sydney Festival, ten acrobats go faster, harder and higher than ever before, taking us on a stirring journey of what it means to be human and of how our bodies, our connections and our aspirations all form part of who we are.

3. Steen Raskopoulos – The Coolest Kid in Competitive Chess
A brand-new hour of comedy characters and inspired spontaneity. As seen on Top Coppers, Sky’s Halloween Shorts and Whose Line is it Anyway? Australia; don’t miss the latest show from this gifted and masterful improviser. The Coolest Kid in Competitive Chess is a winner.

4. Elixir
Winner – First and Foremost Entertainment Award Brighton Fringe 2015. Elixir is circus with a difference! Uninhibited by cliché or expectation, subversive and hilarious, the story follows three enthusiastic and acrobatic scientists who attempt to create the elixir of life. The mayhem that follows is a beautiful mix of incredible acrobatics and impeccable comic timing.

5. Sam Goodburn: Dumbstruck
Accidental clown turned multi award-winning performer Sam Goodburn plays a dumbstruck young man the morning after his first steps into manhood. The endearing dork finds himself semi-dressed amidst an apartment too floral for his now less-inebriated comfort zone. Witness offbeat comedy, world-class unicycling and impeccable feats with sliced bread. Much like his character, Sam is experiencing exhilarating new tingling feelings. As a result of winning Circus Maximus, the search for the UK’s best circus act, he is collaborating with Underbelly and renowned clown/director Fraser Hooper to create his first solo show for the Fringe.

At the heart of the Festival: 3 Buccleuch Terrace
Back in 1998 Dickins started out as an Edinburgh Festival accommodation provider, and although we let homes year round now Festival Letting is at the heart of what we do. We’re so near the festival when writing this that most of our self catering apartments are already gone, but it’s a good idea to start planning early for next year!
This lovely home on 3 Buccleuch Terrace is perfectly situated for all the Festival venues, just minutes from the Queens Hall, Festival Theatre, Pleasance and Bristo/George Square. It is located on a quiet cul-de-sac in a traditional tenement building and could be the perfect Festival flat for you!
