The Edinburgh MagicFest Highlights 2016
The wonderful Edinburgh International Magic Festival is only one month away! In order to bring you the best of the festival we’ve asked a MagicFest representative to write a guest blog for us – and here it is without further introduction:
8 Days of Magic
Lose yourself in magic this summer as we bring the Edinburgh International Magic Festival back for our seventh year, with an enchanting programme of world-class magic events, unforgettable performances and jaw-dropping stunts from some of the greatest illusionists, mind readers and accomplished magicians from around the world.
From 1 – 8 July 2016, Edinburgh will sparkle with innovative and cutting-edge magic. You’ll be left speechless, wondering “how did they do that?!”
This year is our biggest ever festival, with brand new events as well as the return of favourites from previous years, and we can’t wait to amaze and inspire everyone in Edinburgh. There’s a lot to see and do at this year’s MagicFest, here are a few of our highlights…
Brand New MagicFair at Summerhall
Choose your own magic adventure at our brand new MagicFair multi-space experience at Summerhall from 1 – 3 July. Enjoy close-up magic, comedy, illusions, sleight of hand, the Magic and Circus shop, ribbon maze and more… all with just one ticket for up to 4 hours!
Each session offers something different so you can create your own magic mix. Our Family Mornings sessions are ideal for the whole family (under 7s go free!) with a mini Magic School, wand-crafting workshops and live shows from the best children’s entertainers. At the Afternoon Alchemy sessions you can lose yourself in pure, unadulterated sleight of hand from Vincent Gambini, Ryan Davidson and Lewis Barlow; mind games from Colin Cloud and David Gerard; comedy stage magic with Elliot Bibby and Jody Greig and much more. Then moving on to the Lates sessions, you can party the night away with up to 10 live shows, outdoor bars and food stalls, the return of ‘late night horror magic’, mentalists, hidden gambling dens, and the most talented magicians from around the world.
Spectacular Magic & Variety Gala Show
Our exciting Gala Show is always one of our most popular events at MagicFest, and this year we’ve even added in a matinee performance of the show due to popular demand! The best magicians from around the globe, mind-blowing illusionists and adventurous variety acts will take to the stage in Edinburgh’s iconic Festival Theatre on 8 July.
There’s nothing quite like seeing magic live and close up, with no screens, Hollywood effects or fancy TV editing getting in the way of something beautifully impossible. The show is packed full of talented international performers, including South Korean Digital Time Traveller Hun Lee; Alchemist Young Min Kim, who deconstructs matter with the touch of his hand; Spanish World Champion of Magic Hector Mancha and Scotland’s mind reading equivalent to Sherlock Holmes, sell-out act Colin Cloud.
Magic a la Carte at Tigerlily
Develop your appetite for illusion at our mysterious Magic a la Carte Dinner. Let our talented magicians blow your mind with impressive close-up magic performed right at your table, as you tuck in to a delicious three course meal in the stylish setting of George Street’s Tigerlily restaurant. Choose from our a la carte dinner menu, then choose from the Magic Menu and design your own bespoke show – we bet you’ve never experienced such an intriguing, enchanting meal before! Private table-side performances from TV magic consultant Lewis Barlow, former Scottish Close-up Magician of the Year Billy Reid and four times Scottish champion Chris Dinwoodie will leave your brain baffled and taste buds tickled.
Other festival highlights include Magic School workshops for kids, dazzling show premieres from individual magicians, the return of the popular Secret Room and plenty more surprises around the city.
