Let there be light in St Andrew Square
Can you believe it’s 2016?
This marks the Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design in Scotland and to celebrate, a light installation in St. Andrew Square has been announced. KEYFRAMES, delivered by Curated Place with French artists collective Groupe LAPS, will run from February 4 to March 28.
November brought The Botanic Lights, December brought the Virgin Money Street of Light, and now February brings dancing light men who will move in time to music. This spectacle of light will bring cheer to many a dark evening, and bring us into the Spring beautifully. This installation will make its Scottish debut after displays in cities around the world including Dubai, Singapore, Jerusalem, Lyon and Istanbul.
“This is public art which can be enjoyed by all ages and the impressive display will illuminate the night sky. It will bring the city centre to life during the transition from winter into spring and, going by the success of 2014’s Field of Light and last year’s Light Fantastic project, I’m sure it will draw an impressive footfall and support our city’s evening economy.” – Councillor Richard Lewis, Edinburgh’s Festivals and Events Champion
As you can see in the video above, filmed in Istanbul, 80 light sculptures flash in sequence to an original musical composition, creating the illusion of movement. This installation merges art, technology, light and sound to create a totally immersive experience, inviting visitors to view St. Andrew Square in a whole new light!
