Drinking Ainslie Bar 3 Melville Place West End 539 8500 Smallish bar with a raised area at the front looking out onto the street. Seems popular with locals and young tourists alike. Serves Calders 70 well kept, Guinness 80% etc. Great collection of old Edinburgh prints and photos. Drinking Whigham's Cellar Bar Just off Charlotte Square, West New Town Busy, popular with suits drinking haunt, with an excellent selection of wines. They have cosy candle lit booths, so if you get there early enough, you can catch up with friends away from the crowds. Great simple menu too. Eating Blue 1st Floor, 10 Cambridge St, Tollcross, 221 1222 A cool busy bistro, with something for everyone on the menu. Excellent location for a spot of pre/post theatre dining. Lively buzz and great cocktails at the bar. Eating The West Room The West Room, 3 Melville Street, Edinburgh Great Little bar/cafe - very relaxed - great food and very affordable!! An ideal pitstop on the way into town, or on your way home. 10 minutes door to door. They usually have a monthly deal, either 10-20% off your food bill, or a free glass of proseco with food. Entertainment The Royal Lyceum Theatre Grindlay Street, Edinburgh The Royal Lyceum Theatre is a beautiful Victorian building with a long history. Built in 1883, its early days saw performances by the likes of Henry Irving and Ellen Terry. Places of Interest Princes Street Gardens Central/West New Town While in Edinburgh why not have a stroll through the picturesque Princes Street Gardens. In the summer you will see many people picnicking, taking a break from shopping and generally relaxing. While in the winter take a stroll in a 'Winter Wonderland' with ice-skating and funfairs. Princes Street garden is also a great venue and the famous Hogmanay Party boosts many famous musical acts performing in the gardens like Blondie, The Scissor Sisters and Texas to name but a few. These gardens are where the original stinking loch was drained at the time the New Town was built. This is the place to watch the amazing post festival fireworks display; surely one of the best in the world. Open til dusk.
