Things to do

  • Eating
    Circle
    1 Brandon Terrace, Canonmills, Edinburgh  0131 624 4666
With a grand selection of daily specials, an impressive collection of home-made cakes, tarts and pastries, Au Gourmand breads and efficient service, Canonmills' very own café deserves its loyal local fan club. Once home to the Au Gourmand bakery, this is a real breakfast-time find, be it the full or semi-circle breakfast, eggs Benedict or vegge variation that you crave.
  • Drinking
    The Orchard
    1/2 Howard Place, Canonmills, Edinburgh  0131 550 0850
Cosy down on the squashy sofas over a pint or come in for brunch at the weekends; grab a window table and watch the passing crowds or barfly it at the large central bar. Dark wooden furniture contrasts with cream walls and a soft glow emanates from multi-lobed, multi-coloured ceiling lamps. The menu offers your typical pub selections (beef burgers, battered fish, sausages and mash), with a good range of sandwiches available from midday.
  • Places of Interest
    Royal Botanic Gardens

Inverleith Row [East Gate] & Arboretum Place [West Gate], Stockbridge 0131 552 7171
The Botanic Gardens have one of most impressive collections of trees and plants in the world and is a gorgeous place to get lost in an while away a few hours. The glasshouses are where we Edinburgh folk used to go for a treat before the days of central heating! Inverleith House usually has an interesting modern art exhibition and the views of Edinburgh from here are stunning.

  • Drinking
    Coffee Angel

    24-27 Brandon Terrace, Canonmills, Edinburgh
This coffee shop and sandwich bar is a new addition to Canonmills with its warm, welcoming atmosphere serving a wide range of coffees, loose leaf teas and frappes. Handmade sandwiches, panini, bagels, baguettes, bloomers….prepared on site each day, plus bacon rolls. The pastry fridge is always well stocked with cakes, slices, muffins and pastries. • Places of Interest
    Inverleith Park

    Arboretum Place, Edinburgh
Inverleith Park is next to the Botanic Gardens, with 54 acres it is one of Scotland's largest urban parks. The park once formed part of the Inverleith Estate, which had been owned by the Rocheid family since 1665. The park is laid out with playing fields, tree-lined walk-ways and a sizeable pond. Most of the Park is parkland, used as recreational space and for rugby, football, cricket, baseball, children's play park, four tennis courts and a petanque court.
