Drinking Coffee Angel 24-27 Brandon Terrace, Canonmills, Edinburgh This coffee shop and sandwich bar is a new addition to Canonmills with its warm, welcoming atmosphere serving a wide range of coffees, loose leaf teas and frappes. Handmade sandwiches, panini, bagels, baguettes, bloomers….prepared on site each day, plus bacon rolls. The pastry fridge is always well stocked with cakes, slices, muffins and pastries. Free WiFi is also available. Entertainment The Playhouse Theatre 18-21 Greenside Place, Hillside 557 2692 One of the more famous venues in Edinburgh seating 3,000 people and hosting many different productions from musicals like Grease, Mamma Mia, Miss Saigon and My Fair Lady to performing artists like Katie Melua and George Benson. Playhouse also hosts the other popular shows like the Circus of Horrors and Horrible Histories. Eating La Favorita Leith Walk, Leith, Hillside 0131 554 2430 This is a sister restaurant of Vittoria’s (see above.) It’s quite load and very busy but serves an excellent wood fired Italian pizza, probably the best in town. Places of Interest Royal Botanic Gardens Inverleith Row [East Gate] & Arboretum Place [West Gate], Stockbridge 0131 552 7171 The Botanic Gardens have one of most impressive collections of trees and plants in the world and is a gorgeous place to get lost in an while away a few hours. The glasshouses are where we Edinburgh folk used to go for a treat before the days of central heating! Inverleith House usually has an interesting modern art exhibition and the views of Edinburgh from here are stunning. Shopping Valvona Crolla Elm Row, Hillside. Valvona and Crolla is one of Edinburgh's greatest institutions and a must do for 'foodies'. Every single shelf is dripping with all sorts of delicious Italian produce and display fridges stuffed with authentic cheeses and meats. Well worth the visit but you may have sharp intake of breath when they tell you how much you owe at the counter! There's a café attached to the shop serving great breakfasts and lunches. Award winning Italian wine selection.
