Great character pub on one of Edinburgh's most popular streets. A fire is always cracking in the winter, great selection of ales, good buzz and reasonable pub grub. Can be smoky but that will all change with the smoking ban. Eating The Olive Branch Broughton Street, East New Town, 557 8589

One of Edinburgh's finest butchers, Crombie's have a delicious selection of organic and locally reared meats. They also have a fantastic range of speciality sausages which regularly win awards. Best place to pick up ingredients for a cooked breakfast.
