  Small and cosy, this old New Town favourite is always packed full. Great selection of real ales and good hearty crowd and very good value filling lunches. There’s always a fire burning in the winter.

They have a great range of delicious home made proper food and are famous for their curries and salads. There are usually five choices of yummy hot main meals. This is a superb place to get your dinner too, if you’re feeling too lazy to cook. They are also Edinburgh’s leading outside caterers. There’s a family connection so mention you’re in a Dickins flat for even better service. They close at around 4pm.

  National Portrait Gallery

In addition to paintings, the Portrait Gallery displays sculptures, miniatures, coins, medallions, drawings and watercolours. There’s a great café here too selling delicious home made food and some hard to resist cakes.
