What The Dickins: A Tale Of Edinburgh City

Explore the Free Greater Grassmarket Historic Trail

There are countless tours of Edinburgh exploring the fascinating history of this beautiful city but very few (if any?) trails that are self-guided and include an audio guide – all for free. Therefore we were thrilled to hear about the launch of a free-to-use Historic Trail of the most infamous landmarks in the Greater Grassmarket area in Edinburgh’s Old Town! This walking tour that covers the entire Greater Grassmarket area will also introduce you to notorious characters such as the Wizard of West Bow, Burke and Hare and Half-Hangit Maggie…

How long does the tour take?

There are 11 different locations on the trail, which take around one hour to explore. However, the beauty of a self-guided tour is that you can do it in your own time and visit only as many locations as you wish. You can also start and finish wherever you like!

Where can I get a map of the trail?

You can pick up the free Greater Grassmarket Historic Trail map in local shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes or alternatively you can use your smartphone to follow the trail online at www.greatergrassmarket.co.uk/history.
