How do I book an apartment?

If you know which Edinburgh apartment or house you'd like to book, please call the office +44 131 558 1108 or email us at enquiries@dickins.co.uk and we'll complete your booking. As we know all our properties personally, we can help you to make the right decision where to stay and find you your Edinburgh home from home.

Bookings are confirmed once you pay Dickins the required refundable deposit payment, which is normally £350 and the £15 booking fee. If the booking is made within eight weeks of the commencement date of hire, the full rental and deposit must be paid. You can pay by switch or maestro, visa or mastercard (2% fee), cheque, electronic transfer or cash (please do not send cash in the post.)

The rent will be due for payment eight weeks before the commencement date of hire. Dickins reserve the right to cancel a booking where full payment is not received within four weeks of commencement of hire.

If you have any further questions regarding how to book your Edinburgh self catering apartment, please call us +44 131 558 1108.

When you leave, the keys must be dropped off at our office and not left in the apartment, unless this has been agreed with Dickins. A £47 inc. vat administrative charge will be made for keys left in properties without permission.

How should I leave the apartment?

Please make sure that you leave your apartment clean and tidy. The washing up needs to have been done with all the dishes put away in the cupboards. Please close and lock all windows make sure that you double lock the front door when you leave. You do not need to clean the linen but it would be very helpful if you could strip the beds. If there are communal rubbish (refuse) bins nearby then please make sure that you have disposed of all your rubbish. If these bins are not available then refuse will be collected from properties on certain days and this information will be available in each property. If you have broken or damaged anything during your stay you should call the office on +44 131 558 1108. You must vacate the property by 11am.

What is the earliest/latest time to enter/leave a property?

Customers may move into a property at 4pm on their first day and must vacate the property by 11am on the leaving day.

When will I get my deposit back?

Deposits will be returned, less any deductions within two weeks of the end of the hire period. Payments will be made by cheque, bank transfer or by crediting your card.

Under what circumstances would I not get back my full deposit?

• Telephone calls will be charged for where a telephone is available

• If you lose any keys

• If you leave the keys in the property

• If the flat is not clean when you leave but this does not include linen.

• If you have damaged or broken anything

• Occasionally owners may ask for contributions towards utilities where the use has been excessive

What do I do if something in the flat is not working during my stay?

Please call the office as soon as possible on +44 131 558 1108.

What should I do if I have broken something or had an accident, i.e. spilt something?

Please call the office as soon as possible on +44 131 558 1108.
If for example you have spilt something on a carpet, please do not attempt to clean it yourself as this can make stains worse. Please call the office straightaway and we can organise for a professional to look at it.

If I wanted a cleaner or other services, can you help?

We are able to offer excellent contacts for catering and cleaning as well as other services. Please call our office for more information on +44 131 558 1108.

Can I bring my pet with me?

Sometimes owners will accept pets, but generally as our apartments and houses are located in the city centre, they're not really suitable for pets.  If you have a pet please call the office on +44 131 558 1108 and we can direct you to properties which will be suitable for you. An extra pet deposit of £200 will be added to the refundable deposit which will be returned upon inspection of the property when you leave.

What do I need to bring with me?

Most of our properties are fully equipped with everything a customer may need.

What facilities are there for children and babies?

Some of our properties are owned by families and are well equipped for those with children. Please call the office on +44 131 558 1108 so that we can advise you.

What happens if I leave something behind?

All items found in properties will be held for 6 months and all reasonable attempts will be made to contact the most recent tenant if it is apparent that the item belonged to them. Items will be returned by post if appropriate with a minimum handling charge of £20.

Who do I contact in an emergency?

Contact details will be provided with the keys and confirmation documentation.

If I am ill whilst I am in Edinburgh what should I do?

Pharmacists (known as chemists in Britain) can dispense only a limited range of drugs without a doctor's prescription. Most pharmacies are open standard shop hours, though in large towns some may stay open as late as 10pm - local newspapers carry lists of late-opening pharmacies and many supermarkets now have pharmacy sections. If you need to see a doctor please call 0800 224488 and they will tell you where your nearest surgery is. Doctor's surgeries tend to be open from about 8.30am to 6pm Monday to Friday but emergency out of hours numbers will be given.

If you have an urgent medical emergency which requires a hospital you should take a taxi to The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France. The hospital is just outside the city and for newcomers to the city is not particularly easy to find by car, hence the reason why we suggest taking a taxi.
For medical advice by phone you can call NHS Direct (Tel 0845 4647, www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk), who also run an increasing number of drop-in centres (usually 7.30am-9pm) in the bigger towns and cities. In an emergency, call for an ambulance on 999.

What should I do if I need help finding the apartment that I am staying at?

Our apartments are centrally located and will be easily found on any Edinburgh street map. If an apartment is in a particularly unusual location, written directions will be provided with your keys.  Taxi drivers should be able to assist.

How can I get around Edinburgh whilst I am there?

One of the many great things about Edinburgh is that it's a small city and it's easy to explore on foot. Taxis can be picked up on the street easily or if you need to call for one call Festival Cars on 0131 551 6666. There is a good bus network and to find bus routes contact Lothian Buses on 0131 555 6363 or visit their helpful website at www.lothianbuses.com If you're bringing a car with you, it's best to book an apartment with parking facilities as otherwise pay and display parking can be expensive and the chances of getting a parking ticket high!

How can I cancel a booking?

Once a confirmation of booking has been issued by Dickins the hirer is responsible for the total price detailed. If cancellation occurs once payment has been made, the hirer will not be reimbursed unless Dickins are able to re-let the property, in which case the hirer will be reimbursed with the value of the re-let, less a re-letting administrative charge.

Although Dickins does not provide cancellation insurance, customers can purchase insurance independently by clicking the following link - UK Holiday Cancellation Insurance
