What The Dickins: A Tale Of Edinburgh City

Restoration Yard – A New Shopping Heaven

Restoration Yard clock

A while back we visited the newly opened Restoration Yard at the beautiful Dalkeith Country Park only 5 miles from Edinburgh. We stepped through the gates and were sold immediately. The Restoration Yard is set in the restored stables and surrounding courtyard and comprises of a fantastic lifestyle shop, a deli and café, a restaurant and a wellbeing space. Very soon the furniture loft will open as well, which is the perfect excuse to go back again!

Restoration Yard Store

The Restoration Yard Shop is the best we’ve seen in a long time and the perfect place to buy a gift for adults and children alike. Everywhere you look there’s something you’ll want to buy, displayed in the prettiest ways in the gorgeous setting of the re-created stables. Alluring interior decorating items mingle with must-have beauty products, quirky books, scented candles and creative giftware. A must-visit for anyone who likes a good shopping experience!

Food & Drink

The small café next to the fine foods shop sells light lunches, such as salads and sandwiches, as well as cakes, scones and coffee of course. The slightly more formal glass-walled Restoration Café looked very modern and inviting, with a menu that made our mouths water. Another reason to visit again!

Wellbeing Space

We didn’t get a chance to check out the Wellbeing Lab on the second floor, but it is described as “A sanctuary for emotional healing, a space to rebalance and renew.” on the website. The wellbeing programme is still being finalised – so yes, you guessed it: a third reason to go back!

Fort Douglas Playground

Your children will enjoy visiting as well – the recently restored Fort Douglas Adventure Park will guarantee that! There are treehouses, suspension bridges, slides, climbing walls and secret tunnels – every child’s dream day out in other words. There is also a toddler area that the wee ones can enjoy, as well as a zorbing and archery field.

Here are a few snaps from our visit, we hope you enjoy the tour!
