8 Edinburgh Festivals to Look Out For in June

There are plenty of interesting festivals in Edinburgh in June – and to make sure you don’t miss out on any we’ve decided to list eight of our favourites in this blog post. We promise you there will be something for each and everyone!

Gardening Scotland Show

gardeningscotland

This is the biggest plant fair in Scotland and the place to be if you need some inspiration for your own garden – or if you just happen to like plants and flowers! Apart from gorgeous plants there will also be tools, equipment and garden furniture and on display this year will be leading garden designers’ take on what you can do with the sorts of gardens most people have at home.

Edinburgh Juniper Festival

With the World Gin Day on the 10th of June this is a great event to refreshen your gin tasting buds, listen to interesting gin talks and meet fellow gin lovers. There’s no better place to host this event than right next door to the Pickering’s Gin – Edinburgh’s first exclusive gin distillery in 150 years.

Meadows Festival

This weekend festival is the biggest community event in Scotland and one the whole family will love. There will be live music, markets, food stalls, performances, free activities and more. It’s all outdoors so let’s hope it will be a dry, sunny weekend!

Edinburgh Festival of Cycling

The Edinburgh Festival of Cycling is a must for any cycling enthusiast in the country. It’ll be ten days of guided rides, family rides, workshops, talks, films and much more – basically anything any pedal pusher would find interesting.

Retina Photography Festival

Four venues, 202 photographers, a photomarathon and more is what’s on at this year’s Retina Festival. The emerging talent exhibition will showcase the works of ten new talents and the photomarathon will cover twelve topics, asking for twelve photos within six hours from the entrants. A must if you’re into photography!

Edinburgh International Film Festival

Established in 1947, the festival is now in its 71st year. With films such as Amores Perros, Little Miss Sunshine and the Imposter having premiered at the festival in the past, we’re looking forward to this year’s line-up. The programme will be out on the 31st of May, and if you live in the UK just send your name and address to [email protected] to get a brochure posted to you for free.

Royal Highland Show

The Royal Highland Show is a celebration of the country’s best in food, farming and rural life and one of Scotland’s biggest events. At the heart of the show is the main ring where farmers showcase their finest livestock. It’s also a huge shopping and foodie event where you’ll be able to find the perfect tweed jacket and sample the best of what Scotland’s larder has to offer. Make sure you also check out the woodcarving competitions, visit the design tent and say hi to all the animals. This is your chance to meet a highland cow!

Edinburgh International Magic Festival

FREE PIC- Magic Festival 2014 - 03

Having been to a few magic shows at the MagicFair at Summerhall last year we can definitely recommend this festival. There are events for families, day events as well as late night performances and a grande finale gala on the 8th. Make sure you check out the Secret Room events and Magic School for kids too!
